Our Team

Mr. Sewell (67) is the Founder of International Coffee Farms, Panama and the Belize Cacao Consortium, Belize. He is also the Broker/Owner of RE/MAX Offshore To Freedom in Boquete, Panama.

Well-educated and well-traveled, David served for 10 years, from 1970 to 1980, as an active seagoing Officer (Bridge Watchkeeper, Navigator, Surface Destroyer Weapons Officer) in the Royal Canadian Navy.

He holds an MBA in corporate finance from Queen’s University, Kingston, Ontario (1980) and a B.Sc. in biology from the University of Saskatchewan – Saskatoon (1972). In addition, David is an Honors graduate of the Canadian Securities Institute Registered Representative (Stockbroker) Course (1980) and the Saskatchewan Real Estate Board (Realtor) Licensing Course (1984).

With an extensive business background in private equity, venture capital and offshore investing, David’s attention is focused on offshore hard assets in Latin America that offer real growth potential, with a sustainable income, and turnkey management already in-place. David strongly believes in the future of “specialty” coffee and fine flavored cacao, for example, as some of the most likely asset classes to realize spectacular investment gains over the next 20 years.

David is actively engaged in the specialty coffee industry from Boquete, located 40 minutes north of the city of David, in the province of Chiriqui, Panama. Through International Coffee Farms (ICFC) (www.cuatrocaminoscoffee.com) David and his very experienced ICFC team of local experts (see below) currently operate 10 specialty-coffee farms in the Boquete area.

David is also actively engaged in the fine flavored cacao industry in Belize.  The Belize Cacao Consortium, founded by Mr. Sewell in 2016, operates 3 cacao plantations, a cacao fermenting and drying depot and an artisanal chocolate company on Ambergis Caye, Belize.

In August 2012, David was instrumental in the development of the specialty-coffee farm parcel ownership business model currently in use by ICFC. Since that time, with Darren Doyle’s assistance, from April 2013 (see below), as of September 2015 they have placed about 720-0.5 acre farm parcels with about 200 Owners.

He and his wife Debra (and their 2 cats) have successfully lived offshore in Panama since June 2007 and can share their personal experiences gained throughout the country. David has also lived and done business in Mexico, Costa Rica and Argentina since he left Canada in 1992 looking for warmer weather and lower taxes! He enjoys a family of 3 children and 7 grandkids.

Born and raised in Dublin, Ireland Darren (36) has lived and worked offshore starting at the ripe old age of 20. He arrived in Panama in 2012 and has lived here ever since.

Prior to that he spent years working overseas in Australia, Holland, France, SE Asia, the Middle East and in The US.

As Co-founder of International Coffee Farms, and in his role as VP of Sales & Marketing, Darren is successfully helping people who are looking to “internationalize” some of their current real estate portfolio assets.

Now, in combination with Agronosotros and RE/MAX Offshore To Freedom, he is helping clients from all over the world to add Panamanian real estate to their offshore portfolios.  Acting as an “Offshore Concierge” Darren advises on a variety of asset protection products and structures including Self-Directed IRA accounts and offshore bank accounts, as well as helping numerous people obtain permanent residency visas in Panama.

Many of our clients are looking to take that big step offshore. Darren has 15 years’ experience of setting up a life for himself in foreign countries, often with different languages and all the challenges that go with it. He is available to help talk our clients through the re-location process.

Andres Lopez (51) was born and raised in Boquete, in Chiriquí province, the heartland of Panama’s coffee farming. He still lives and works in Boquete to this day, having spent the last 25 years working with and advising the top coffee producing families in the region.

Although formally trained as a mechanical engineer, Andres has been involved through his entire career in the total coffee farming process, from planning to development and implementation of ecologically-friendly coffee farms. He has completed the design and construction of a proprietary state-of-the-art coffee processing mill utilizing equipment from the world’s top producer of coffee processing machinery.

In his role as ICFC’s General Manager, his expertise also encompasses direct farm personnel management, increasing farm utilization and profitability, inventory and warehouse controls, in addition to product quality control during the entire growing, milling and roasting processes –from seed to cup!

Andres is ably assisted on a daily basis by ICFC’s farm foreman, Jose Seracini. Jose is a qualified graduate Agronomist who is instrumental in the “design” and application of the products and the labor and farming practices utilized daily to improve the coffee farms from commercial quality when acquired to premium specialty-coffee value over a few years.

Andres also has Valentina Pedrotti on his staff as our Biol0gist and Value Chain Analyst.  She and two assistants are instrumental in developing the data and analysis necessary to professionally operate a 21st century agricultural business.

He has recently taken over responsibility for the cacao farming operations in Belize.  Capably assisted by very experienced local Mayan cacao farmers, the operations to plant, process and distribute high quality fine flavor cacao are well underway.
